Canada is moving toward a digital-by-default economy. But that shift only works if businesses can genuinely trust who’s on the other side of the screen. Interac Corp., the network Canadians rely on to move money and verify identity, is consistently raising the bar on how that trust is established and maintained.
As part of that commitment to improving user outcomes, Interac recently partnered with Incode to bring advanced identity verification (IDV) and fraud defenses into Interac Verified™. The collaboration gives Interac exclusive Canadian rights to deliver document verification using Incode's technology.
As a result, Interac becomes the preferred domestic verification provider for Canadian businesses, with high-assurance identity checks now available at a more accessible price point.
Incode's technology adds several layers of protection directly into Interac's existing document verification service:
Fraud has moved from stolen documents to fabricated identities. As generative AI makes synthetic faces, voices, and videos cheaper to produce, a verification system built only to check a document against a face is no longer enough. Systems must also detect the conditions under which a document was captured, not just the document itself.
Together, these capabilities support digital account openings, onboarding, credit applications, and other high-risk transactions where getting identity verification right matters most.
Interac brings something few networks can: decades of experience operating at national scale. Interac connects nearly 300 financial institutions, and Canadians rely on Interac products tens of millions of times a day. That scale, paired with data residency that defaults to Canada, means this collaboration supports digital sovereignty while raising the bar on assurance.
“The goal is simple: build trust into digital interactions in Canada,” said Fatema Pirone, Head of Verification at Interac.
The enhancements to Interac's document verification service are designed to deliver higher assurance and faster outcomes in a cost-efficient way, giving Canadian businesses a practical path to approve legitimate customers faster while stopping bad actors earlier.
By combining identity verification with defenses against deepfakes, injection attacks, and other sophisticated impersonation techniques, the collaboration brings stronger assurance to more Canadian businesses without adding friction for legitimate users.
For organizations onboarding customers in Canada, this partnership means access to some of the most rigorously tested IDV technology available, delivered through a network they already trust and rely on daily. Fraud tactics like deepfakes and injection attacks are evolving quickly, and this collaboration gives Canadian businesses a way to stay ahead of them without slowing down legitimate customers.
The new capabilities will roll out in phases, with a full launch planned for late 2026.
