How Lemon verifies crypto customers across Latin America with Incode
In crypto, value moves in seconds and cannot be reversed, so the identity check at signup is where fraud and dirty money get stopped.

A crypto platform serving Latin America
Lemon is a crypto platform serving customers across Latin America, live in Argentina, Brazil, and Peru.
Every market Lemon enters brings its own national ID, its own regulator, and its own fraud patterns. Who gets an account is a decision made once, at signup, and it has to be right in all three countries.
In crypto, the wrong account holder is a real loss
Across Latin America, crypto platforms are now held to the same identity and anti-money-laundering standards as banks, and in crypto a verification mistake is unforgiving.

01
A license on the line
Argentina requires crypto providers to register as virtual asset service providers (VASPs) and meet the know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money-laundering (AML) rules set by the securities regulator and the financial intelligence unit, with comparable regimes in Brazil and Peru. A verified customer at signup is what keeps Lemon licensed to operate in each market.

02
Fraud that cannot be reversed
Value settles in seconds and cannot be clawed back. A single account opened under a stolen or synthetic identity can launder funds, cash out someone else's money, or move value for a sanctioned actor before anyone notices.

03
Three countries, three ID systems
Each market brings its own national ID and its own fraud patterns. Verifying them with separate point tools turns the funnel into a maze, and the gaps between systems become the way in.
A verification that lets the wrong person through converts straight into financial and regulatory loss. Lemon needed one partner that could verify identity, catch fraud, and meet every regulator, in all three markets, without slowing signup down.
Every check an applicant has to pass, in one flow
Each new customer moves through a sequence of checks. Every one closes a different way a bad actor gets in, and each is tuned to the market it runs in.
Is this a valid identity document?
Identity Verification
The flow captures and validates each market's national ID, starting with Argentina's DNI, with per-country configuration. A document is read and checked against the rules of the country that issued it.
Is the person the document's owner?
A selfie with liveness and occlusion checks is matched 1:1 against the ID, so a genuine document presented by someone else fails at the face. An 18-plus age check flags minors for Lemon's own decision.
Is the document real, or manufactured?
Deepsight
Deepsight runs in Lemon's live Argentina flow, screening for tampered and AI-generated documents that get past a basic template check.
Does the government agree?
GovDataMatch
Beyond reading the DNI, the applicant is checked against Renaper, Argentina's national persons registry. The identity is confirmed against the record the government itself holds.
Are they clear to onboard?
Every applicant is screened against custom, per-market watchlists inside the same onboarding response Lemon already reads. Sanctions and politically exposed persons (PEP) lists are covered, aligned across every market.
Returning users don't start over
Authentication
Hundreds of thousands of already-verified identities were consolidated onto Incode, so a returning user re-validates against their stored identity with a single face-authentication step instead of onboarding again.
The full identity stack now runs across every market Lemon serves, and no existing user was asked to onboard again.
How it works
One identity stack, tuned to every market
Breadth without added vendors
Argentina's Renaper government check, Deepsight document-fraud detection, and custom, regulator-grade watchlists run on the same platform Lemon uses everywhere else.
Tuned market by market
Every check is configured per country, with a team working a weekly cadence to stand up each market's flow.
Reusable identity
A verified identity is stored once and reused, so returning users authenticate with a face match instead of repeating onboarding.
Privacy is the architecture
Incode made privacy a founding conviction long before regulation or the market asked for it. Its AI-first identity verification reduces fraud while remaining private and compliant.
Testimonial
“Launching in a new market doesn't mean finding a new vendor. Identity, fraud, government, and AML checks already run on one platform, everywhere we operate.”
