What venues and leagues are up against

A new era of fraud for live events

Face-based entry went mainstream across US sports in 2025, and fraud followed the crowd from the box office to the turnstile. One 2024 breach at a major ticketing platform exposed data tied to hundreds of millions of fan accounts. (SecurityWeek, 2024)

Slow gates, shared tickets

Peak-time entry bottlenecks while tickets are resold or handed off, so the person at the gate is not the person who was screened.

Ticket bots and scalping

Automated buying beats purchase limits before real fans get a chance. The federal BOTS Act is now under active FTC enforcement. (FTC, 2025)

Fan account takeover

Breached credentials fuel stuffing attacks on ticketing accounts, where stored tickets and saved payments are waiting.

Banned individuals returning

Barred or violent individuals try to walk back in. Venues and leagues need to stop them at every gate, at full crowd speed.

How it works

One identity for every fan moment, verified in real time.

Why venues and leagues choose Incode

Independent layers of defense for every fan

Fraud that adapts will eventually fool any single check. Incode verifies every identity across independent layers, each reading a different signal, in milliseconds. Real fans pass without friction while fraud has to beat every layer at once.

Document verification

AI-powered detection of paper forgeries, screen spoofs, and digitally generated IDs. International identity documents supported.

Biometric liveness

Liveness detection confirms a live person is present and matches the face to the document in milliseconds.

AI-generated document detection

Deepsight for Documents catches forged, tampered, and fully synthetic IDs, fraud that template checks and barcode validation were never built to see. 8.8x more fraud caught than document checks alone.

Banned-individual screening

1:N checks at entry flag people a venue or league has barred, with case review built in, so security acts before they are inside.

Cross-venue fraud signals

Our collaborative intelligence solution links repeat offenders, ticket brokers, and duplicate identities across venues and events.

Privacy is the architecture

We made privacy a founding conviction long before regulation or the market asked for it. For fans that means explicit opt-in consent, tokenized face data rather than raw images, and prompt deletion.

Case study

Following safety concerns across the sport in 2022, LIGA MX introduced Incode Fan ID to strengthen identity checks at stadium entry and help create a safer experience for fans and families.

FAQ

Common questions about identity verification for live events

Still have questions? Talk to an expert
How does face-based entry speed up venue gates?

Face-based entry lets an enrolled fan authenticate with a glance at the turnstile instead of presenting a ticket. Fans opt in once with an ID and a selfie; at the gate, the live face is matched to the enrolled identity in milliseconds, so lanes keep moving at peak arrival. Incode runs this model across an entire top-division national soccer league.

Is facial recognition at stadiums legal under BIPA and GDPR?

Biometric privacy laws like Illinois BIPA and Europe's GDPR require informed consent before face data is collected, plus clear retention and deletion rules. Incode is built for that posture: fans opt in explicitly, face data is tokenized rather than stored as raw images, deletion is prompt, and use is limited to entry and safety.

Is biometric entry mandatory for fans?

No. Face entry is opt-in and runs alongside traditional ticket scanning, so fans choose it for speed rather than being forced into it. Opt-in design is also what keeps a deployment on the right side of biometric privacy law.

How do venues keep banned individuals out?

A 1:N watchlist check compares each entry against individuals a venue or league has barred, and flags a match for security before the person is inside. Incode pairs the check with case management so security teams review and act on every flag.

Does Incode stop ticket bots and scalping?

Yes. Verifying a real, live person at purchase blocks automated buying, and risk-based screening catches the broker patterns that circumvent purchase limits, the conduct targeted by the federal BOTS Act. Real fans check out without extra friction.

Can Incode verify age for alcohol and in-venue betting?

Yes. Face-based age estimation confirms a fan is of age for alcohol and age-gated areas without a full ID check, and document plus selfie verification covers sportsbook KYC where regulators require it.
